Mean Old Mommies at the Park Today

Well...today's park visit wasn't near as nice as the last (we have been going to the park daily since the weather has been so nice). After our run this afternoon, Caroline and I went straight to our neighborhood park...and I had my first bout of protective mothering. Normally everyone I have encountered has been super friendly. But not today.

There was a playgroup meeting while we were there .. but no one - NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON acknowledged Caroline or I. I was doing a good job of keeping her distracted (you all know how much she lights up when she sees other kids), but at one point she couldn't take it anymore. She ran over to a group of 2-4 year old girls who were sitting on a blanket playing with their dolls. She bent down, waved her little hand, and said "Hi" over and over. They didn't respond at all. She started to frown, so I went over and told the parents (3-4 mothers sitting right beside the girls), "I'm so sorry. She just really likes other children." NOT ONE RESPONSE.

We went back to sliding down the slide and one of the little girls in the group came over to where she was standing. Caroline got super excited, petted the little girl's stomach and said "Hi." The little girl pushed my child's hand away from her! Caroline started crying, and I almost lost it. What is WRONG with people? All anyone had to do was say hello back. Really...it would have made her little day. I scooped her up and we left.

To those mean old mothers in the park: When my precious little pumpkin says hello to you and waves ... look up and say hello back. It won't kill you.

Screw 'em. We've got a better playgroup, anyway.

OMG - I will take them out! Nobody puts baby in a corner or pushes her sweet little hand away!!!
They were just jealous - pure and simple.
Give her a big hug from me.
