Conversations with Caroline

When I went in her room after her nap today...

Me: I have a surprise for you downstairs!
Caroline: Is it a bunch of red balloons?!

For the record - it was a cookie.

And then just a few moments ago: I was on the couch typing an email. Caroline climbed up, wrapped her arms around me (from behind) and said, "Mommy why do you have boobies Mommy?" I explained that mommies have boobies so that they can feed their babies. Her response? "Oh. Like Jacob." And then she was done.

Jacob understands pretty much everything you say to him. However, he isn't the talker Caroline has always been. Jacob now says "Night, Night. GiGi. MomMom. Dada. and Awh du (all done)" daily. Occassionally he will throw in something else - "shoes on" and "find her" were two from this past weekend. But mostly he makes noises. I just figured out that when he smacks his lips, he wants to give you a kiss. Love it.

I took Jake and Caroline to see Santa on Friday, and the visit went really well this year. Jake was mostly indifferent (he just sat there starring at us). Caroline loved it. She even told him what she wanted for Christmas.

Jacob does talk & walk :-)

I just realized in the past couple of days that Jake does in fact know more words than DaDa and Momma. He now says, "No No" when he really, really doesn't want to do something. And he says "Aah Da" when he is done eating or drinking something (all done). He doesn't say hi or bye, but he ways for both. He especially likes to wave bye bye when he is ready to leave somewhere (our house, the store if we have been there too long, school when I pick him up, etc.).

He took his first steps the week after his first birthday, and he hasn't attempted / walked since. (It was almost like he just wanted to prove he can.) However, today he was bored, and I was working on something and not entertaining him. I looked over after a few minutes, and he stood up, walked a few steps, and fell down. Then he stood up and did it all over again and again and again. After about 10 minutes I finally remembered to grab the camera & take a video. He was super tired by this point, but still did a great job.

I know a lot of people frown on letting children watch TV. I'm not one of them. They don't watch a ton (Jake doesn't last more than 15 minutes), but I do allow them to watch a little. (Caroline would watch all day if I let her, but she is restricted to 90 minutes, tops. Most days less.) It's so cute to see them all cuddled up in their little chairs. I couldn't help but grab the camera. Here are a few pictures from this morning...

Conversations with Caroline

While leaving for school on Thursday...

Caroline: "Oh no, Mommy. We are running late."
Me: "We aren't runny late muffin."
Caroline: "Oh, yeah. We're driving late." (We were about to get in the car.)

Disney on Ice: Princess Wishes

Gabe, Aunt Roz, Uncle Stu, and I took Caroline to see Disney on Ice yesterday. She was super excited. She's been talking about it for a month. Every time we passed a billboard advertisement, she would yell, "We're going to see THAT!"

Here are a few pictures of the kids right before we left the house. Jake - you were too little to really enjoy it. We dropped you off with your Lita, Tia Coco, Mica, and Audrey. I have no doubt you had a ball!







The drive over to the show was interesting. We were just pulling into the parking lot when I realized I left the tickets on the printer at home. We stopped at Office Depot, who had no Internet access. I ran (yes...ran) to Kinkos, who blocked ticketmaster's website. I then started running to the Marriott nearby, when something told me to swing into Schlotzsky's. The nicest little woman (owner) let me use her office printer / computer. I printed off the 5 tickets, and we booked it back to the show. Gabe and Stu dropped Caroline, Roz, and I off as close as they could. We hopped on the tram, road for a few minutes, then jumped off (while it was still in motion) and ran all the way to the box office (me while holding Caroline). We were about 10 minutes late. Just as we sat down, Gabe and Stu walked up. Apparently, they were able to park right at the front. :-P Here are a few pictures from the actual show...






Caroline didn't say much during the show. She was very quiet and just watched. The few things she did do:

(a) When Mickey and Minnie came out she said, "But where is Daisy?"
(b) Yelled, "TINKERBELL!!!" the first time Tinkerbell skated out.
(c) FREAKED OUT when the Dragon from Sleeping Beauty blew fire. (In her defense, it was pretty scary. Especially if you are 3.)

She said her favorite part was Cinderella, and she wanted a Tinkerbell flashy wand-thing.

Trick-or-Treating can be Tiring

I just found this picture on the camera from Sunday. Gabe took Jake home while Caroline and I hit a few last houses.

We were walking up to our last house when Caroline said, "Mommy, I'm getting tired of this."

I think we pushed the trick-or-treating as far as it could go.

It was so hard to get a decent video last year while actually trick-or-treating that I decided to take a couple right before we left. Here are the kids getting ready to go.



My favorite video was of Caroline walking in her little flower costume when she was one. Jake can't walk quite yet, but he is very good at "cruising."

Caroline's Idea of "taking a nap"

Caroline - you are no longer napping. For the past 6+ months, you've napped about 1/2 of the time. The rest of the time you just played (happily) for a couple of hours in your room until I came up to get you. Now though, it appears you are officially done. It's been at least a week since you actually took a nap. This afternoon I walked in to get you, and this is what I found. I couldn't help it .. I laughed so hard. I asked you why you put the dolls on the window, and you said: "I just put them up there because it's fun."

Happy 1st Birthday Jacob Paul!

Jake - I'm not sure that I can put into words exactly what I am feeling today. I am so proud to be your Mommy. You are such a sweet little child, and you make me laugh daily. I'm a little sad knowing you are no longer a "baby" anymore. However, I'm looking forward to watching you grown into a little boy this coming year. Here are a few pictures from your party on Sunday (just family, very low-key)...

Jake's First Haircut
