Mean Old Mommies at the Park Today
Well...today's park visit wasn't near as nice as the last (we have been going to the park daily since the weather has been so nice). After our run this afternoon, Caroline and I went straight to our neighborhood park...and I had my first bout of protective mothering. Normally everyone I have encountered has been super friendly. But not today.
There was a playgroup meeting while we were there .. but no one - NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON acknowledged Caroline or I. I was doing a good job of keeping her distracted (you all know how much she lights up when she sees other kids), but at one point she couldn't take it anymore. She ran over to a group of 2-4 year old girls who were sitting on a blanket playing with their dolls. She bent down, waved her little hand, and said "Hi" over and over. They didn't respond at all. She started to frown, so I went over and told the parents (3-4 mothers sitting right beside the girls), "I'm so sorry. She just really likes other children." NOT ONE RESPONSE.
We went back to sliding down the slide and one of the little girls in the group came over to where she was standing. Caroline got super excited, petted the little girl's stomach and said "Hi." The little girl pushed my child's hand away from her! Caroline started crying, and I almost lost it. What is WRONG with people? All anyone had to do was say hello back. Really...it would have made her little day. I scooped her up and we left.
To those mean old mothers in the park: When my precious little pumpkin says hello to you and waves ... look up and say hello back. It won't kill you.

A Day at the Park
Today we had playgroup at a cute little park in South Austin. The wind was pretty chilly, so Caroline got to wear her peacoat park of the time. She absolutely loves the slides! I think we have an addict on our hands. Here are a few pictures.
The precious little girl with the light pink bow is Caroline's BFF Reese. The little boy on the slide with her is her little friend Palmer. At the end of the day, she thought sliding down the slide head first would be a lot of fun. She laughed the entire way down!

Playgroup and the Pumpkin Patch
Going Out Sure Has Changed
So Gabe and I attempted to go dancing last night (for the first time since I found out I was pregnant with Caroline). The result - we found out we are old. Well...we're too old AND too young.
Our first destination was dinner at Chuy's with our friends Lindy, Jeff, Terri, and Richard. We had a GREAT time ... but could have easily gone home after. However, since Caroline was with her GiGi and Paw Paw, we fought back our yawns and went over to The Broken Spoke (I have been talking about wanting to go dancing forever). Yeah...not what I thought it was going to be. The lights were all on (sorry, but it needs to be dark for dancing magic to happen) and the median age of the BS's clientele appeared to be about 50.
That being a flop, our next attempt was Midnight Rodeo. The lights were dim, but the customer's were young. Now mind you ... I thought we were their age. But Gabe quickly informed me that we do not look like 20 - something's anymore. And boy has country music changed! I just wanted to dance to some George Strait or Rascal Flatts or anyone else that is truly "country." The band they had playing was some sort of rock want-to-be. Of course...that could be my age talking, because apparently the drunk 23 year olds thought they were fantastic.
I should have known we were in trouble when the security dude at the door carded me and looked puzzled at my picture. I said, "do I really look that young?" To which he replied, "No, I was puzzled b/c it looks like you have cut your hair."
